Day eight is Christmas Day and we need to split up: one group is off for a three-day backpacking trip in Nelson Lakes National Park while the other group is off for three days of wine tasting, naps in the sun, general lazing around and oh, maybe a hop on a bike for a spell. (Or so I hear.)
