Our jungle cabanas... |
and the jungle showers... (excellent!) |
...all situated on the banks of the Caves Branch River. |
Such a wonderful setting to wake to... |
and the sounds of the jungle... |
...including the cries of some howler monkeys. |

So now I need to apologize for my photography in the caves... |
...from the lack of light and my inability to fire a flash with my camera encased in a waterproof camera bag... |
...to the condensation that formed on the *inside* of my camera bag (due to the humid air I captured in the bag and then exposed to the cold of the water)... |
...to the difficulty of taking long exposures while floating in a raft... |
...my apologies. I hope the images still capture some of the feeling of floating down this river... *through* a mountain... through the Mayan underworld... |
Drifting in the dark... |
...to sudden openings of the jungle and the sunlight... |

And letting the current carry us back into the dark... |

At one point we had a short portage to get around a section of the river we couldn't follow. |

While we stopped for lunch, another group came through, but floating on inner tubes. |

This was a particularly amazing spot. The cavern opened up to the size of a large arena and the jungle could be seen breaking through the far end. The sound of a waterfall revealed a long cascade of water along the bank of the river. |
