Day Two - On to Horombo Hut

Soon after leaving Mandara Hut, we passed through a grove of giant heather and suddenly
both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks popped into view.

   

Several hours later, at a windy picnic table, it's time for...
butter and cheese sandwiches!
Oh boy.

 

 

 

They say to keep to the road when crossing the moors....

Ah, but it's not werewolves you might run into up here, it's elephants and buffalo!

 

 

 

A bit colder at the Horombo huts at 3700 meters, but still quite comfortable.
These things even have electric light powered by solar-charged batteries.

 

The Horombo huts sit on a sort of promontory permitting incredible views to the south...
when the skies are clear, that is.
